Utomi, Ezeife blast Eagles

Professor Pat Utomi

Founder Centre for Value in Leadership, Prof. Pat Utomi, has said it is a shame that Nigeria failed to qualify for the Africa Cup Nations, attributing it to failure in the nation’s leadership.
He said, “Can you imagine Germany not going to the European championship? That would mean a loss of a sense of self. I know Nigerians would be dazed by the bad exit. It is an accumulation of the fact that we have not been doing the needful in our administration. Every aspect of our national life is reduced to corruption and quarrel.
“We cannot even get our FA right. What we hear is FIFA is about to ban us, or they are about to unban us.
“This is another symptom of the failure of leadership in the country. Everything has been reduced to money and power.”
A former Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, said Nigeria’s inability to qualify was frustrating and suggested that the players, not just the coach, should be re-examined.
He said, “For me it is very frustrating. I saw the match live. I cannot tell you I know what is responsible for what happened but the South Africans played their hearts out. They played very well. I cannot say our people did not play well also.”

ONITSHA—The Federal High Court sitting in Awka, Anambra State, presided over by Justice Isah Gafai, will today, deliver judgment in the suit filed against Governor Willie Obiano by an Onitsha-based human rights lawyer, Jezie Ekejiuba, seeking to disqualify and nullify Obiano’s election over alleged submission of false voter’s card ahead of the November 16, 2013 governorship election in the state.
Justice Gafai had, after hearing and adopting the submissions and written addresses of both the plaintiff, Ekejiuba who stood in for himself and counsel to Obiano, Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN, adjourned sine-die, noting that the judgment day would be communicated to them as soon as it was ready for delivery.
But on November 18, the court informed both parties that the judgment date had been fixed for today, November, 20 at 1pm for delivery.
Ekejiuba had dragged Obiano, All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Professor Chukwuemeka Onukogu, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to court asking for the disqualification of Obiano, as the candidate of APGA and the nullification of his election of November 16 and 23, 2013 because he gave a false information by submitting a false Voter’s Card in his INEC’s Form CFOO1 with a sworn affidavit, contrary to Section 31 (1) to (6) of the amended Electoral Act, 2010.
Also in his submission, Ekejiuba contended that Obiano had allegedly submitted false voter’s card in his Form CF 001 sworn affidavit, arguing that the Supreme Court judgment submitted by counsel to Obiano, Dr Onyechi Ikpeazu in support of his defense was aimed at stalling the court’s proceedings.
